Funding Statement

Authors must disclose all sources of financial and material support received for the research and preparation of the manuscript. This includes, but is not limited to, research grants, institutional funding, commercial sponsorship, government funding, foundation support, and other financial or in-kind contributions.

When funding has been received, authors must provide the following information, where applicable:

  1. Funding Source: The full name of the funding organization, institution, agency, company, or sponsor.

  2. Grant Identification: The grant number, award number, or other funding reference, if applicable.

  3. Recipient of Funding: The author(s), institution, or research team receiving the funding, where relevant.

  4. Role of the Funder: A clear statement describing the funder's involvement, if any, in the study design; data collection; data analysis and interpretation; manuscript preparation or revision; and the decision to submit the manuscript for publication.

  5. Relationship with the Funder: Any relevant financial or non-financial relationships between the authors and the funding organization that may influence, or be perceived to influence, the research or its reporting must also be disclosed in the Conflict of Interest Statement.

If the funder had no involvement in the conduct of the research or preparation of the manuscript, authors must explicitly state this.

For studies supported by commercial entities or organizations with a potential interest in the research findings, authors should provide sufficient information to clarify the sponsor's role and the authors' independence in conducting the research, interpreting the results, and deciding to publish the findings.

Receiving funding does not automatically constitute a conflict of interest. However, any relevant relationship between the authors and the funder that could influence, or be perceived to influence, the research must be disclosed separately in the Conflict of Interest Statement. The Funding Statement identifies the source and role of financial support, whereas the Conflict of Interest Statement describes relevant relationships, activities, and interests that may affect, or be perceived to affect, the authors' professional judgment.

Required Funding Statement

If the study received funding:

“The authors disclose that this study was funded by [full name of funding organization] (Grant No. [grant number, if applicable]). The funder's role in the study design, data collection, analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit the manuscript for publication was [describe the funder's role]. Any relevant relationships between the authors and the funding organization are disclosed in the Conflict of Interest Statement.”

Authors must modify the statement to accurately reflect the actual funding arrangements and the funder's involvement. If the funder had no role in any of the activities listed above, this should be explicitly stated.

If the study received no specific funding:

“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

Authors should use this statement only when it accurately reflects the funding arrangements for the study.

Authors must provide both a Funding Statement and a Conflict of Interest Statement, as applicable, even when the study has received funding. These statements serve different purposes and must accurately reflect the circumstances of the research.

The Journal of Health Policy and Management (JHPM) expects authors to provide complete and accurate funding disclosures to promote transparency, accountability, and trust in the scholarly publication process.
